I usually chew gum during descent. The chewing motion helps equalize the pressure in my ears.
I swear by the Valsalva maneuver. Just pinch your nose, close your mouth, and gently exhale. It usually does the trick for me.
I use over-the-counter decongestant nasal sprays before the flight. They help prevent my ears from getting clogged, especially on longer flights.
I find that staying hydrated helps a lot with this problem. Drinking plenty of water before and during the flight seems to reduce the chances of my ears getting clogged. Also, taking small sips while climbing in altitude helps.
If my ears are still clogged after landing, I take a warm shower. The steam helps open up the Eustachian tubes.
