Hey Ginny! You’re in luck. India allows passengers to bring in up to 2 liters of alcoholic beverages (wine or liquor) as part of your duty-free allowance. Just be aware that you need to be 18 or older to import alcohol.
March 6, 2024 at 4:53 pm #339Ginny, I’d recommend packing those bourbon bottles securely in your checked luggage. Make sure to wrap them carefully in bubble wrap or clothes to prevent breakage.
March 6, 2024 at 4:54 pm #341To add to what Joana said, make sure you check the airline’s website for any specific restrictions on liquids in checked bags. Some airlines may have additional rules.
March 6, 2024 at 4:56 pm #343Hey guys, quick question. Does the type of liquor matter? Or can I bring anything as long as it’s within the 2-liter limit?
March 6, 2024 at 4:57 pm #344PropPilot, good question! The type of liquor doesn’t usually matter, whether it’s whiskey, gin, vodka, etc. It’s just the total volume that counts towards your allowance.
March 6, 2024 at 4:57 pm #345I flew to India last year and brought back some amazing local rum as a souvenir. Just make sure you declare it on your customs form upon arrival.
Hey John, from my experience, it depends on the airline and where you transit through. Some airlines might allow the purchase, but you may need to consume it on board or potentially face restrictions at your transit point. To be safe, I’d double-check with the airline beforehand!
March 6, 2024 at 4:58 pm #348Has anyone had issues carrying liquor through India if their final destination is somewhere else? Thinking about taking a few bottles to Nepal as a gift.
March 6, 2024 at 4:59 pm #349PropPilot312, I believe connecting domestic flights within India have looser restrictions. I’d still pack it in your checked luggage to be safe though.
March 6, 2024 at 4:59 pm #350PropPilot312, definitely check with the airline directly – they’ll have the most accurate and reliable information.
